Not your regular festival, actually not a festival at all...

This is not a passive experience where everything is planned, orchestrated and pre-packaged by the event producers, and attendees just come and enjoy the show. In fact, the exact opposite is true...

You are Blazing Swan

YOU create the city, interaction, art and the performances.
Ultimately, you are the “experience.”

Participation is at the very core of Blazing Swan

At Blazing Swan the people who attend are not mere “attendees,” but rather active participants in every sense of the word; they create the city, the interaction, the art, the performance and ultimately the “experience.”

Theme Camps

Theme Camps are the interactive core and cultural lifeblood of Blazing Swan.

An ideal Theme Camp creates a visually stimulating presence and provide a communal space and opportunities for interaction with participants.

You must nominate your Theme Camp to be a Theme Camp at Blazing Swan each year and receive placement at Jilakin Rock City. Registered Theme Camps (once your nomination has been approved) will be publicised and printed in the Blazing Swan WTF (Where’s The Fun) Guide to be distributed at Blazing Swan.

Creating a Theme Camp takes commitment, time and good organisational skills. It is hard but rewarding work, and we advise that you create a team of people to help you. Once registered, there is also a whole community of people out there wanting to help you, just ask!

Mutant Vehicles

A Mutant Vehicle is a unique, motorised creation that shows little or no resemblance to their original form, or to any standard street vehicle. Mutant Vehicles are radically, stunningly, (usually) permanently, and safely modified from their base vehicle and are an expression of art and/or a public service that enhances the creativeness of the event whole in an imaginative and safe manner. Sometimes the whole vehicle is made from scratch.

Mutant Vehicles may include such non-standard motorised forms such as furniture, other non-street vehicles such as a boat or train, animals, or just about anything imaginable. For safety reasons, they must not mimic any type of emergency service or law enforcement vehicle.

Vehicles merely stripped to the frame and engine, and vehicles with minimal changes or temporary decorations are not considered Mutant Vehicles.

When designing your Mutant Vehicle, use your Mutant Imagination! Your Mutant Vehicle should provide a sense of awe to the community, something that is unique and also interactive for others to enjoy!

Volunteer

As a community-driven event operating in the spirit of the 11 Principles, volunteering is a form of participation, gifting and civic responsibility.

Blazing Swan‘s very existence is dependent upon participants generously gifting their time, energy, and resources to make the event happen. No matter what skills or interests you may have, there is a way for you to participate in the creation and manifestation of Blazing Swan.

Making Blazing Swan a reality is a huge task and we need an awesome crew to help us create something truly spectacular each year. We can’t do it on our own, so get involved! Check out the crew roles below and get in contact if you can help. Contact us on volunteers(at)blazingswan.com.au

*Please note: Volunteering for Blazing Swan does not entitle you to any material reward or a free ticket to the event.
